Marco Island in May

Weather, Things to Do, and Where to Stay

May is one of Marco Island's most underrated months. The snowbirds have gone home, the spring break crowds are long gone, and the island settles into a peaceful, unhurried rhythm. Lower rates, warm water, and nearly empty beaches.

Crowds

Shoulder season — quiet

Brief afternoon showers start appearing in late May but mornings are typically beautiful. Restaurants have shorter waits, beaches have more space, and vacation rental availability is much better than peak season.

Things to Do in May

Swimming & Water Sports

Gulf water temps are perfect. Paddleboarding, kayaking, and swimming are all excellent.

Fishing

One of the best months for fishing. Tarpon season peaks in May and June. Snook and permit are also active.

Shelling

Still good shelling at Tigertail Beach at low tide in the morning.

Dolphin Watching

Very active in May as baitfish move through the Marco River. Guests at Riverside Relaxation see them from the lanai daily.

10,000 Islands

One of the last great months before summer heat peaks. Kayaking and wildlife tours are excellent.
